Liposuction | Minneapolis & St Paul

Many men and women in Minnesota have excess fat in the surface of their body that just won’t go away, even after they lost weight. Humans have forever been on the journey to aesthetic perfection, so much so that a procedure, called liposuction that might help get you there was invented.

The procedure is done using local tumscent anesthesia with or without intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. The surgeon uses the new liposuction technology to melt fat first and then inserts a tube that goes under the skin, where it sucks away fat using a vacuum pump. This requires expert skill, as removing too much can make the area look wrinkled and uneven, but not removing enough will not result in good shape.

There are many different liposuction technologies that vary greatly, including Vaser, laser and body-jet. As such, recovery may vary as well. Patients usually have to wear the compression garments for 4 weeks to improves the contour of the skin as it adjusts to the absence of fat.

It’s highly common to feel mild pain and tenderness, especially if the liposuction was performed over a large area- such is the price of beauty! Jokes aside, your body is also vulnerable to infection, so you will probably be prescribed antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and painkillers to make the healing process easier. Most of the bruising and swelling will subside within weeks, but the entire process can take several months. You may feel initial tenderness, stiffness, and possible the appearance of small lumps that usually resolve with time goes. These are all a part of healing- have faith in the process.

Liposuction is a powerful procedure with the potential to transform people’s bodies and lives. The targeted removal of fat can make one look more attractive and healthy. Make sure to find a good surgeon having a lot of liposuction experience and good lipo technologies.

I had the Best Possible Experience in Every Way | Minnesota

We often receive the feedback and testimonials from our cosmetic patients. This is one of them we received yesterday. We are proud that we provided high quality cosmetic care.

“I believe that I had the best possible experience in every way from the initial consultation, the procedure, the preparation, and after visits.

When I came for the consultation it had taken a year to get the courage to do so, and I wasn’t set on any decision, but Dr. Shu was very kind, engaging, and explained simply what he recommended, and why.

Emily was very pleasant, kind, reassuring: the preparation was explained and all the instructions well written.

The procedure itself was very impressive, and interesting. It was then when I realized all that was involved, and all the skill involved to do this!

It was then also I probably realized the discount he so kindly gave me especially when I got off the table and saw all the equipment used on me! Wow! And also how personable both Dr. Shu and Emily were, and the sense of humor! And Emily also writing down the name of the classical music we listened to by Yo-Yo Ma, so I could purchase on i-tunes~ Such warmth and kindness all around, which I’ll always remember and appreciate”. – Dan H

Dr. Shu Performs Liposuction on Himself (DIY Liposuction) | Minnsota

In an ambitious feat, Dr. Shu performed a liposuction procedure on himself on April 30th. Dr. Shu took the role of both the patient and the surgeon, removing his own fat from his abdomen without the assistance of nurses or another surgeon.

One reason he performed this procedure was simply to remove excess pockets of fat from his abdomen. However, the main purpose of performing a liposuction on himself was, first and foremost, to experience the liposuction procedure from the patient’s perspective. In doing so, Dr. Shu gained a better understanding of what a patient undergoing liposuction may experience, allowing him to provide better care for his patients. This is not the first time Dr. Shu has performed one of his procedures on himself. In the past, he has also performed a gastroscopy (EGD) on himself – one in 2006.

Dr. Shu always wants to be a surgeon who truly understands his patients needs.

40% of Patients with General Anesthesia Experience ‘Brain Fog’ or POCD | Minnesota

The best way to avoid “brain fog” or postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) related to general anesthesia is not to use it at all.

Surgery patients are routinely exposed to up to 30% more anesthetic drugs than needed in a study published by board-certified anesthesiologist, Dr. Barry Friedberg.

40M patients undergo anesthesia every year for major surgery. 40% of them (16M) experience ‘brain fog’ or postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD), likely from too much anesthesia. That 16 million patients every year have underlying, previously undiagnosed preoperative conditions is an untenable assertion, yet that is the “standard” response when anesthesia providers are asked if their or their loved one’s postop mental dysfunction could be from too much anesthesia.

“The bottom line,” says Friedberg, “Don’t let your parents, your spouse or anybody you love, especially over 50, get general anesthesia without a brain monitor or you may NEVER speak to that person again. The mind you save could be theirs, or even your own!”

“Although the brain monitor helps to ‘control’ their individual anesthetic dose and avoid over medication, the best way to avoid ‘brain fog’ or postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) related to general anesthesia is not to use it at all,” says Dr. Steven Shu.

Dr. Shu performs all cosmetic surgeries under local tumescent anesthesia with IV sedation only, which does not cause “brain fog” or postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD).

After Liposuction, How to Keep the Fat Off?

Liposuction is a very common cosmetic procedure that removes unwanted fat and improves body contouring. Although liposuction is an effective way to improve a person’s body shape and even help to lose some weight, it’s important that people who have undergone liposuction keep the fat off by eating healthy and doing exercise properly.

Eating Healthy
The best way to maintain the body weight and prevent fat from depositing in certain areas and internal organs (visceral fat) is to eat a healthy diet. A diet with a lot of fats and simple carbohydrates will cause you to gain weight very quickly, and significant part of this weight will be visceral fat. This fat is actually much more dangerous than the surface fat that is removed by liposuction. To prevent this, you should eat more vegetables and lean meats.

There are many types of vegetables and fruits you can eat to get the nutrients you need. They are low in calories and have little to no fat, and they have plenty of vitamins and dietary fibers. Avoid eating large amounts of sweets that are full of sugar and fat.

You may also learn the concept of glycemic index in food. The goal of the low-glycemic diet is to eat unprocessed, unrefined carbohydrates in combination with healthy proteins and fats to improve satiety by keeping digestion slow. The quick release of glucose triggers a hormone response that tells your brain you’re hungry again, which is problematic for the dieters in Minnesota, who are trying to reduce their overall calorie intake. Some examples of good low glycemic foods include oatmeal, beans and vegetables. Some examples of high glycemic foods that can cause a spike in blood sugar include some fruit juices, breads, starchy foods like potatoes and sweets, and baked goods.

Drinking Water
Drinking water is a great way to help lose more weight, as it provides a feeling of fullness before you begin eating your food. Moreover, water also boosts metabolism because your body has to work to bring the ingested liquid to your core temperature.

Just by drinking two glasses of H2O prior to eating your meals, you can lose up to an additional 6 to 7 pounds per year. Water does the job and it does the job well. It’s also zero calories and you can get it straight from your kitchen faucet. Overall, consuming H2O has many health benefits and provides an easy and convenient way to lose weight.

Doing More Exercise
Some people may think that liposuction makes them look and feel so good that they no longer worry about eating right and starting an exercise regimen. This is not the case. People who get liposuction and then don’t exercise or eat right could slowly get fat deposited in the lipo-ed areas again. Exercising after the procedure is actually even more important than exercising before it.

In the first two weeks after liposuction, you won’t be able to do much exercise, but you can do simple exercise during your recovery period, such as walking. Actually, walking around the house right after the procedure is important to prevent surgical complications, especially deep vein thrombosis.

After you have fully recovered, which will take about four weeks, you should start a proper exercise regimen. By exercising approximately 30 minutes for at least three to four days a week, it not only prevents the fat depositing, but it also improves your cardiovascular and pulmonary functions. Jogging, walking and running are good cardio exercises. Light weightlifting and other toning exercises can give you an even more attractive shape and figure.

Lunch Break Lipo: Walk in and Walk out in an Hour

More than a decade ago, people needed to be admitted to the hospital for liposuction, and it was performed under general anesthesia. Traditional liposuction without local tumescent anesthesia has notoriously high complications and a long recovery time. With the invention of local tumescent anesthesia and new liposuction technologies, liposuction can be done safely and effectively in the ambulatory setting. Now, Lunch Break Lipo is designed to improve efficiency and minimize down time.

Lunch Break Lipo can be done during your lunch hour. Of course, you can block your schedule to do Lunch Break Lipo for an hour at any time of day. Patients may schedule a lunch break lipo without the initial consultation and may send their pictures for review. One of our staff members will call the patient to go through everything before the procedure.

Lunch Break Lipo is so minimally invasive that the patient remains awake during the liposuction and can even return to normal activities when it is over. The Vaser lipo system is an impressive technology that maximizes fat extraction without compromising your comfort and safety. It uses focused ultrasound energy to selectively remove fat cells without affecting much of the surrounding veins, nerves, and tissue. This results in faster healing and less downtime. It also helps to tighten skin. This is why Lunch break Lipo can be performed effectively and efficiently without any sedation.

Lunch Break Lipo usually takes 30 to 45 minutes to finish in one area. The lipo area is given local tumescent anesthesia, but no general anesthesia or intravenous or oral sedation, so patients can walk in and walk out in an hour, no driver needed. The Lunch Break Lipo is limited to one area. If the patient needs liposuction in more than two areas, or on a large body, then oral or intravenous sedation will be given.

Liposuction is Good Option for Getting into Shape

Liposuction can ultimately improve your body contouring and enhancing your self-image. One thing to be clear is that liposuction or Lipoplasty is in no way a shortcut to a healthy body. Despite a good diet, healthy lifestyle, and a reasonable amount of exercise; many people in Minnesota due to family traits rather than a lack of fitness, etc. may have a body with localized fat deposits that leads to a disproportionate contour. There is nothing wrong in getting a cosmetic surgery done; it is purely a matter of choice. There is no doubt that diet and exercise are good for your health and should always be the part of your living, even if you undergo liposuction to get into shape. However, there are stubborn areas or pockets of fat that do not budge with diet and exercise and liposuction is a good option for getting into shape.
