Laser Liposuction – The Latest in Fat-Removal Technologies

Laser liposuction, also referred to as laser-assisted lipolysis, is the latest in fat removal surgeries. New technologies are making these types of procedures easier, safer and more effective with each passing year, and laser liposuction is the next evolution in that design. This technique can be used almost anywhere on the body, from the thighs all the way up to the face. Since it is a new procedure, however, it is best to know a little about it before making the decision to have it done.

What makes this technique different is that it uses a laser to target and liquefy the deposits of fat which are to be removed. This makes it easier to remove the fat as well as being less invasive than other surgeries. After the fat is broken down, it is pulled from the body via a standard liposuction vacuum process. All this can be done in the comfort of an office using a local anesthetic. A session of laser liposuction usually takes from 30 to 45 minutes.

Using a laser for this process has several advantages over traditional liposuction techniques. Since it only uses very tiny incision, there is a minimum of bruising and bleeding. This also means a quicker recovery time. Most that have this procedure are ready to go back to their normal schedule the next day. No need for a general anesthetic means less potential complications in that regard.

Laser liposuction has also been shown to have other benefits. The laser creates a tightening of the skin in addition to the fat removal. It also helps to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin; two components of skin which help promote firmer, smoother skin with more elasticity. The overall effect is less fat combined with a smoother and more naturally contoured body.

Despite all the benefits, laser liposuction does have some disadvantages. It is more expensive than traditional methods, for one. Also, since it is a relatively new technology, there are risks of burns from unskilled operators. Some health conditions, such as skin, blood, heart, liver or kidney problems, may prevent one from being able to have this procedure done.

Many doctors are still wary of performing laser liposuction on their patients due to its newness. This means that finding an experienced laser operator is of utmost importance when looking at this procedure as an option. Like all fat-removal techniques, having laser liposuction will not keep weight off permanently. It is up to the patient to maintain their new, healthier weight and prevent the fat from returning.
